Possessed by the Forest Queen 10″ LP
From the deep earthen caverns we hail the daughters of darkness & light, The Elements gathered within a circle round & commanded by The Lady of Earth. These songs were written & gathered to pay homage to she who devours the boiling sun & kisses the yellow flames with lips of Fire. It has been a year since the last endeavor “Wither” was released into the spheres of sound. “Possessed by the Forest Queen” shows Lasher Keen exploring more medieval textures, ever striving for the forgotten chords to reawaken the sleeping spirits.
“Possessed” was recorded 8 track analog at home in the Bat Cave Studios. Guest appearances include Waldteufel’s Markus Wolff, who in addition to adding his resonate baritone vocals, also contributed to the the artwork. Also appearing again is long time collaborator Robert Schultz, who provides us with the unique sound of the Jaw Harp. Released by Peasanta UR-Folk Records on vinyl as a limited edition 10” of 323 copies.

Wither
“Wither,” Lasher Keen’s follow up to their 2006 self-titled release, promises an evolving array of instrumentation and technique. Work Started on the album in the Spring of 2008. The next year and a half plus found the band hard at work in Hiroshi House Studios. Located in Grass Valley California, Hiroshi House Boasts being the only pure analog recording studio in the county, offering high quality recordings on their 24-track Studer Tape decks. This was important to maintain the natural, organic feel of the music that can easily be lost in digital recording. The Studio’s Owner and Engineer, John Renoir, co-produced “Wither” along with band members DyLan Sheets, BlueBird, and Sage Arias. The members themselves play most of the instruments you’ll hear on Wither including, but not limited to, Guitar, Accordion, Male & female larynx, Cello, Bodhran, Glockenspiel, Orchestral bells, Banjo, Vibraphone, Hammond Organ, Piano, Mandolin, Bouzouki, Elk, and goat skin Drums, Bass, Various Whistles & flutes, Violin, & an array of field recordings. Lasher Keen were helped in their endeavor to create “Wither” with guest vocalists Dawn McCarthy, and Nils Frykdahl of the well known bay area bands Faun Fables, and Sleepy Time Gorilla Museum. Other contributors include Markus Wolff of Waldteufel, Rossignol (a local Medieval Woman’s Choir), saw player Robert Schultz, violinists Roz Parducci & Jad Wenger and one song even found local wildlife getting involved.

Lasher Keen
For this recording, which was first called Y KILL K, Dylan & Richard moved to Oakland California & began recording at Hyde St. Studios in San Francisco. Wanting to produce something more professional then a record recorded in 8 hours, the band booked 3 months in the Cookie Jar room. After laying down all the basic tracks live, which consisted of Drums, Vocals & guitar, the Over dub sessions commenced. Wanting each song to have its own unique sound, the idea was to have outside musicians come in & play on each song. Each playing a different instrument.
This was nearly achieved with a variety of talented bay area musicians coming in & laying down Flute, Bagpipes, Cello, Upright Bass, Violin, saxophone, & a gospel women’s choir.
The result was Lasher Keen. A more sophisticated developed sound emerged from these sessions, but soon after, due to personal differences Richard & Dylan went their separate ways & Lasher Keen strove ever forwards.

Y KILL K
The name Y KILL K was the result of looking at a pants zipper for inspiration. Y KILL K consisted of Dylan Sheets – Guitars, Vocals, Bells, & Richard O’Connell – Drums.
Recorded in 2005 at Hiroshi House studios in Grass Valley California. This album was initially a 6 track EP recorded in about 8 hours. The bonus tracks 7-12 were recorded at our rehearsal space on a 1 track cassette recorder. For fans of a more Lo-Fi sound, this is for you.
This recording was the result of pure studio naivety mixed with undying passion for the music & art. The songs here represent raw energy & the screams of a broken heart.

March to the Sun
The First album recorded by Lasher Keen’s founder DyLan Sheets. These songs were from a youth highly inspired by the likes of Syd Barrett. Other inspiration came in the form of a green alien creature named Kozmar & his companion the Queen Viola. Teenage insanity mixed with English psychedelic folk, This is a sure blend of extremes to wet the tongue of ye avid listeners.
